Dennis Crookedacre

M.A., LPC

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and University Professor. My wife, of over forty years, and I have two adult daughters and two grandchildren. My wife’s mother lives with us in Broken Arrow. I am an Adjunct Professor at the University of Oklahoma. I have provided services both as inpatient and outpatient therapist for children and adults. Currently I am part of a dedicated team at Kaiser Rehabilitation with Hillcrest in downtown Tulsa. By nature I am an encourager. A positive force. A humorous ally.

My life journey has taken me down many pathways. My experiences have enabled me to reach out to many young and old alike. I thrill at seeing a person address the particular challenge that has encumbered them. I relate well to children, sometimes I still think of myself as twelve years old. I’m able to assist parents dealing with challenging children because I am one. Clients quickly feel comfortable with me, even somewhat unwilling participants. I’ve been told by clients male and female, 7 and 70, how they have enjoyed and received great benefits from our time together. Clients comment how I “hear their words.”

Depression, anxiety, stress, anger, rejection, are legitimate feelings. Sometimes feelings can become overwhelming. I honor the opportunity to join alongside individuals moving forward toward their best self. Our past does not have to define us. The past can be important in understanding what brings us to today. It is today, the here and now, that offers opportunity for change.

I’m glad to share what I have learned through literature, journals, trials and tribulation. Should a client desire to include the religious or spiritual realm as a part of therapy, my undergraduate work in Philosophy and Religion can be helpful. I am culturally sensitive having worked with Latino, African American, Native American, Western European, as well as individuals defining their own personal identity.
